So, I read about 40-ish books this year and that’s not including all the graphic novels, manga, web comics, and fan fiction. Due to popular demand, I will be sharing all of books and a few graphic novels that I have read since everyone wanted to know the full list of books I read this year. But to make it easier on me I just read a bunch of trilogies so here.
Oh, and Spoiler Warnings for anyone who cares.
This was the second fat positive book by this author I had read and I adore it. I don’t mind being called fat as it is how one can describe me but it’s always nice to see from different perspectives on the subject. I highly recommend this and the previous book by her to anyone who wants to be not only body positive but also body inclusive.
Favorite Part: When she discussed how fat shaming is one of the only acceptable discriminations while acknowledging that a lot of discrimination is still very much allowed in many compacities.
OMG and they were roommates HA. This book is like the closest I have seen to another piece of media replicating the vibe of OHSHC other than Pretty Boy Detective Club. They main character is a trans man instead of non-binary like Haruhi, but his love interest is the same pathic sap of a man that Tamaki is.
Favorite Part:When doing an assignment, the MC learns he’s good at black out poetry which the poetry genius roommate is not.
For fans of Nimona and The Office where fairy tale rules apply here but we aren’t taking applications for that role right now. Which will apparently have a fourth and hopefully final book. This series is quirky and cute easy adult fiction read that I wish had dual voices for the audiobook for max immersion.
Favorite Part:The banter in all the books is like this:
[The Villain] paused to pinch the bridge of his nose. “Sage, do you honestly think me incapable of humor?” “Of course I don’t think that” she said earnestly. “You hired me.”
Okay this one fully pissed me off. I was told this was a Cinderella-eques story about a Black slave with a Viking King in Norway. What I got was miscommunications and the dullest world building possible. The only saving grace was that this was an indie debut novel for kindle, so the quality bar is basically in hell, but I have standards. FF.net users made better OC stories with a box a scarp and you’re getting paid for this and didn’t get an editor or beta to help you feel out the story. Fuck this book!
Favorite Part:When the MMC makes the Wife of the family who owns the MFC drink liquid hot coins because she was selling off her virginity to the highest bidder and got mad when the king asked to have a night with her.
This is a Korean manwa about a woman who ends up engaged to the CEO of her company on accident because she was disguised as her friend and that same friend ends up falling in love with the CEO’s best friend but thinks the girl the CEO is in love with and He is in love with are one in the same. Ah yes, The Love Square strikes back. It’s also a K-Drama on Netflix.
Favorite Part:When the CEO’s grandpa Officially Adopts the best friend so he can be legally his grandson and be put in the will.
So... this is the 2nd book in the Lights Out Trilogy and I am not sorry I love this series it’s so silly like what do you means you’ve been stalking her for like 10 years ever since you were forced to break up in high school what do you mean you’re her tier 3 sub on only fans what do you mean you just found out about your kinks like???
Favorite Part:…Roll the Tape…
[I fought a shiver, refusing to be turned on by that comment. “My roommates are both holding weapons.” Sort of. “And Walter [her dog] doesn’t like strange men.” “Good boy,” he said. “Walter is a girl!” Taylor yelled past me for some fucking reason. Junior’s smile widened, eyes boring into mine, and I realized what she’d done. Oh, no. He parted his lips and dropped his voice into a bass growl. “Good girl.” Behind me, Taylor let out a sound like a dying whale, clearly overwhelmed by her praise kink.]
I’M BACK ON MY BULLSHIT PART 2 ELECTRIC BUGALOO BABYYYYY! We are so back with my favorite monster romance with this prequel duology about the duskwalkers’ parents and who each of them came to be. This is a slow burn for like 600 pages romantically but does wonders for world building this fantasy universe. I will miss this series so much, but I am so glad that after everything it all worked out for this weird ass family.
Favorite Part:When the God of the Void finally gets to touch his mate after centuries.
[Her soul was his to keep, heal, touch, guide, revive, steal, protect, and embrace.]
This is an online monthly serial that has a fully voiced audiobook on Spotify and YouTube, but I got impatient and got the subscription to the hosting site for the stories that span at least 5 volumes per book with there being 3 books in the series currently. Basically, it’s long as hell but like one piece it’s not long enough. What is it about? Gay Interdimensional Vampires with eldritch powers having a war of succession.
Favorite Part:When the heroes of book 2 get sent back in time and through circumstances the main human character gets turned by the big bad but then uses his new awakening abilities that he gets from the big bad to resurrect a dragon that he now controls with his mind.
Omg I get to say this now… For fans of Heated Rivalry this trilogy is about trailer park trash motocross riders and childhood enemies become lovers, but they remain rivals while they are lovers. Meaning they’ll beat each other up then nurse each other back to health so that they can do it again next week.
Favorite Part:In book 3 the main couple are the younger brothers of the 1st couple and all one of them wants is a fridge where you can get ice from the door and the other makes his dreams come true.
This had been on my TBR for some time, and I finally decided to read it. This is for all you fan of Kamisama Kiss and Spirited Away. A young girl ends up in the sprit realm engaged to a sea god in order to appease the tides, but then she becomes the savoir of both realms. It feels closer to the anime Kakuriyo, but I think if you like one, you’ll like the other either way.
Favorite Part:When she rejects the emperor of the land for the king of the sea even though he made her wait for him for like 5 years.
Put Ace of Diamonds and Sailor Moon together and make that combination watch RuPaul’s Drag Race, and you basically got the vibe for this sapphic graphic novel trilogy. This was a brief and messy (positive) romp of a series that I had been intrigued by for a minute.
Favorite Part:When the main characters decide that they each have 2 hands IYKYK.
I have constantly seen this advertised on IG and I decided what the hell I already read one dark mafia romance besides it can’t be as bad as previous years and it wasn’t. I know I’m shocked too. The third act felt a little forced but all in all not bad for an arranged marriage trope. The one part that always shows up in promo doesn’t even mention that the FMC is a wheelchair user with chronic pain.
Favorite Part:He gives her a black card, a bespoke wheelchair, and a dog.
New book from what is slowing becoming one of my new top authors. All their books have a paranormal sort of spin on them and this one is no different from it basically being Monster High meets Scooby Doo: Mystery Inc. the MC develops clairvoyance where he can see in the future which is a rare ability that only comes once a century. This also makes him a political chip to be used for whoever can sway him to their clan which would be enough if his 1st vision wasn’t a homicide.
Favorite Part: When all our main cast of charters all comes together and each is a different clan, and they have to sit at a tiny lunch table like The Breakfast Club so no one can say they hold more favor with the clairvoyant than the other clans. Sure, that makes since in a high school politics way, but it’s still funny that no one thought of a rotating schedule or something.
As we know I am a monster fuckerlover and as such when I see my body shape in a monster romance, I eat that shit up. This series uses the name demon but really the demons in question are not hell born but different monster classes (i.e. Werewolves and Nagas). While not a pure monster romance as they all have human forms this series wins on the fact that all the MFCs are Black Dark-Skinned Plus-Sized Cajuns and MMCs that like to eat Cajun. 😏
Favorite Part:When the book 2 FMC is trying not to fall in love with the MMC and vents to her best friends saying “HE’S SO HOT AND REPECTFUL” I was dying of laughter.
I waited all year to read this one so I could be festive and read it during Christmas, and it did not disappoint. I was one of the first wave of fans for Red White and Royal Blue and this scratches that same queer romcom itch but make it The Santa Clause with a mix of Rise of the Guardians. This was so fun and swoony with just the right amount of cheese I like in a Hallmark/Lifetime holiday movie.
Favorite Part: When the MC due to circumstances has to distance himself from the MMC but still wants to fall close to him so he takes one of his skull rings to wear and fidget with so he can feel like he’s holding his hand ~squee~💖.
This was homework assignments assigned to me to learn to take criticism better. The conclusion that the book comes too is that to not make one mistake away from a melt down or get burned out is to not make your work who are but what you do and make what you do worth doing.
Favorite Part:The author suggests mystifying what you do for example Retail worker: I make finding goods easy for clients while providing insight into what best suits their needs while also showing them new ways to use store products.
This was the most boring shit I have read in a while. Look I know I’m not a classical literature type of girly, but I appreciate that classics I just don’t respect the writing styles of most of them and this book reads like a Charles dickens work, and it pisses me off. The premise of it is something that should be in my wheelhouse. It has the Fey realms, a deadly curse, and a murder mystery to book but it takes FOREVER for the plot to really kick in and then it stalls before becoming interesting again in the last 30 pages. I just wasn’t entertained.
Favorite Part:When the MC has to go save his friend’s ward for being consumed by a fey succubus and is so out of sorts he doesn’t realize he was taken by a fey with hooves for feet because her whole chest was out.
The continuation and conclusion of the series that almost everyone who saw my 2024 review was interested in. This was the series that got my sister out of a reading slump and one can see how. With the first 2 books ending in cliffhangers and the side stories being heartbreaking this series was a doozy. All that to say, I was not ready for the main plot twist that book 3 gave us of the few it did give us. Did I predict it? Yes, because they gave us all the clues. That doesn’t make it a lesser twist, but it does show good writing. Although I did think that we were going down the old K-Drama twist for a second there. IYKYK
Favorite Part:When I was reading book 3 and almost cried at work 3 separate times for different characters.
Why would I pay money for straight Omega verse when it is clearly the inferior version of it? I thought this was a poly Omega verse, but no it’s a Why-Choose so it's super straight because they all just share one omega and no alpha/alpha action to be had. DISAPOINTED! Then had the audacity to call the series "Rebellious Royals" get the fuck out of here. At the very least there may be some queer storylines later in the series, but I don’t care enough to find out.
Favorite Part:When it ended… Fine… When they all finally get in her nest together before they are all officially crowned as the royal pack. I guess or whatever.
I read book one in 2024, and I loved it because it combined Bridgerton with Howl’s Moving Castle. This series was very comforting because it’s fairy tales, but it has maturity to them without spice. I, of course, loved the 2nd book the best because of the Cinderella story aspects. I recommend this series to all my Disney Adults who are a hair close to walking into a Fairy Ring.
Favorite Part:When the adopted daughter from book 1 takes after both of her new parents in book 3.
I’m back on that bullshit y’all. I swear to you I am not a dark romance girly see previous entries, but I promise you these are good. That mostly comes down to the FMCs all also being serial killers. Each book’s MMC is a different brother so there is a bit of overlap about the story which is fun for context by the time you get to book 3. Read the Trigger Warnings and you should be good, but there is nothing I can do about the ice cream. Sorry.
Favorite Part:In book 2 when the MFC must fix the resin table she made herself because there was too much liquid trapped inside it, but she can’t move her hand from the hole because then the MMC will see and thumb poking it out.
What if your graduate thesis was to lift a curse of a hallmark village or literally die from your own curse trying to? That’s the basic plot of this novel. In this MM romance we have a dirt-poor witch trying his best to make it through his final practicum so he can try and accomplish his goal of making magically enhanced outfits in the capital city before his own affliction kills him, but true love literally gets in the way of his plans.
Favorite Part:His crow familiar calls him out on his bullshit several times, but he really takes offence when his new ghost roommate decides the crow is right.
Like the Regency Faerie Tale books, I had read the 1st book in 2024 but unlike that series I did not enjoy this series. I don’t know why I thought I would. That’s a lie I saw some really good art of the series, and I just had to read it. Is the story bad? No. Is it good? No. It’s so mid if the smut wasn’t there to make me intrigued it would have taken me forever to get through this series. There are some spins off books I may torcher myself through, but we’ll see.
Favorite Part:When the main couple get the other human survivors out of the ship and they realize they are together and their trying to figure out how a 7-foot-tall spider monster gets romantic with a 5’2 human woman.
Another Instagram pick that for some reason, it keeps recommending me these mafia romance books and for some reason I keep choosing to read them. This one is about a rich chubby girl attending university in College Station, Texas whose scummy ex BF put up as collateral for his debt to the mob. Then the hit man sent to kill her ends up falling for her. It was kind of mid since nothing crazy happened but nothing swoon worthy happened unless you haven’t seen any media with a romance involving a plus size woman.
Favorite Part: I kid you not all of the characters go see a live production of Epic the Musical I’m sorry I mean “The Epic Musical is in town!”
I wanted to start reading more nonfiction books this year for the sake of diversifying my reading and it was tough starting with this one, but I made it through, and it actually gave me some insights about myself and others around me. This book is about how we use our brains to brainstorm or imagine things and what that means when we can’t or can only think in a certain way (i.e. people with aphantasia)
Favorite Part:Learning that the way IKEA furniture instruction manuals are done so there are no words needed but then it being notoriously hard to do for people who don’t think in images.
